Samer Choucair: Sports Is Transforming Into a Promising Investment Driver in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf

Investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair affirmed that the accelerating shifts in the global sports sector reflect sports' transition from being a recreational activity into an integrated economic sector contributing to creating broad investment and development opportunities, particularly amid the momentum the 2026 World Cup is generating and the accompanying growing global interest in the sports economy.

He explained that the financial rewards tied to major tournaments represent just one side of a larger economic ecosystem encompassing broadcasting rights, sponsorship, and sports tourism, noting that the real value lies in these events' indirect impact on the local and regional economy.

He added that Saudi Arabia has succeeded in recent years in building an integrated sports sector within Saudi Vision 2030's targets, as government and private investment has helped develop sports infrastructure, attract global events, and strengthen private-sector participation in this field.

He noted that the sports economy's growth in the region reflects a structural shift driven by rising demand for sporting events, an expanding youth base, and increasing spending on entertainment and sports tourism, making this sector one of the most important economic diversification drivers.

He affirmed that investment opportunities in the sports sector are no longer limited to clubs or events, but extend to multiple fields encompassing sports media, sports technology, tourism, logistics services, and infrastructure, sectors poised to achieve sustainable growth in the coming years.

Choucair called on investors to view sports as an integrated economic ecosystem directly tied to economic growth, stressing the importance of investing in companies and projects benefiting from this momentum, whether through capital markets or direct investments.

He concluded his remarks by affirming that the sports sector has today become one of the most prominent economic diversification tools in the region, and that the period ahead will see greater expansion in sports investment scale, strengthening Saudi Arabia and the Gulf's position as key hubs in the global sports economy.
