Samer Choucair: When the ”Curse” of the Pitch Becomes a Lesson in Strategic Investing

Investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair said that the image that recently circulated of English captain Harry Kane raising his arm wearing the white number 9 shirt amid a difficult match against Ghana once again drew attention to the story of the "curse" that sparked widespread debate after a Ghanaian traditional healer claimed it had affected the player's performance, before later announcing it had been lifted.

He added that this story, regardless of its details, carries an important message for investors: that even the best players and strongest teams can be temporarily affected by psychological or external factors, which also applies to financial markets.

He explained that volatility, sensational headlines, and geopolitical events can represent temporary pressure on investment portfolio performance, but the strategic investor capable of understanding market mechanisms can turn these challenges into genuine investment opportunities, particularly in Saudi Arabia, which continues implementing Vision 2030's targets.

*Volatility Isn't the Problem, How You Handle It Is*

Choucair noted that investors, just like athletes, face continuous pressures that could push some toward emotional decisions affecting long-term returns.

He affirmed that "the real curse isn't in the volatility itself, but in surrendering to it without understanding the market's deep mechanisms," explaining that the strategic investor relies on data and economic fundamentals, not daily noise or temporary reactions, adding that this is the difference between someone who collapses under market pressure, and someone who turns that pressure into an opportunity for better investment performance.

*Vision 2030 Strengthens the Non-Oil Economy*

Choucair explained that 2026 economic indicators confirm the Kingdom's success in continuing its economic diversification journey, with projections pointing to non-oil sectors growing by 4.3% during the year, with their contribution to GDP rising to approach 55%.

He added that the Saudi economy recorded growth of 2.8% during the first quarter of 2026, driven primarily by non-oil activities, reflecting the success of structural reforms and the massive investments the state is leading through the Public Investment Fund (PIF), affirming that Vision 2030 is no longer just an economic plan, but has become an integrated model strengthening the Saudi economy's resilience and its ability to achieve sustainable growth despite global challenges.

*Sports and Entertainment, a New Growth Driver*

Choucair noted that the sporting image that inspired this analysis also reflects an important aspect of investment opportunities within the Kingdom, pointing out that the sports and entertainment sectors have become among the most prominent growth drivers under Vision 2030.

He added that the Saudi sports market size is expected to exceed 22 billion dollars by 2030, driven by developing the Roshn Saudi League, hosting global tournaments, and investing in modern sports infrastructure.

He explained that these projects don't just contribute to developing the sports sector, but create integrated economic opportunities in tourism, hospitality, media, and sports technology, strengthening the diversity of the national economy.

He affirmed that investing in sports and entertainment represents an investment in quality of life, attracting tourism, and strengthening the Kingdom's image, positively reflecting on various economic sectors.

*Samer Choucair's Advice for Investors During 2026*

Choucair offered a set of recommendations for investors, affirming the importance of focusing on economic fundamentals and not getting swept up behind sensational headlines or short-term volatility.

He called for diversifying investments into sectors achieving sustainable growth, led by sports and entertainment, tourism, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence, as among the sectors most aligned with Vision 2030's targets, stressing the importance of adopting a long-term investment vision, and capitalizing on the structural reforms underway in the Saudi capital market, which offer promising opportunities even amid temporary volatility.

*Saudi Arabia Turns Challenges Into Opportunities*

He concluded his remarks by affirming that genuine investment opportunities emerge when the investor possesses a clear vision and a deep understanding of market mechanisms, noting that Saudi Arabia today offers a more mature, diverse investment environment thanks to Vision 2030's targets.

He added that challenges, whether on the pitch or in financial markets, can be turned into success stories when managed with a clear strategy, affirming that the Saudi economy today possesses the fundamentals making it one of the most capable economies of turning global shifts into sustainable investment opportunities during 2026 and beyond.
