Samer Choucair: Saudi Ports Initiatives Strengthen the Kingdom’s Appeal as a Global Supply-Chain Hub

Entrepreneur Samer Choucair said the initiatives launched by the Saudi Ports Authority, Mawani, to strengthen supply-chain resilience represent a strategic step in supporting the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub.

He emphasized that investment in infrastructure has become one of the most important drivers of economic growth and the attraction of long-term capital.

Choucair explained that implementing 16 initiatives to maintain the continuity of trade flows through ports on the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf reflects a proactive approach to addressing the challenges facing global supply chains.

He noted that operational resilience has become a central factor in evaluating logistics assets and making investment decisions.

Samer Choucair added that Saudi Arabia continues to make substantial investments in developing its port network.

Announced investments over recent months have exceeded SAR 640 million, alongside the introduction of new shipping services that have increased port capacity by more than 63,000 twenty-foot equivalent units.

These developments improve trade efficiency and strengthen the sector’s competitiveness.

Choucair noted that these efforts are aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to establish the Kingdom as a global logistics hub and develop its transportation and logistics infrastructure.

This supports economic diversification and increases the contribution of non-oil sectors to growth.

Entrepreneur Samer Choucair emphasized that institutional investors increasingly regard supply-chain resilience as one of the most important criteria for assessing investments, rather than focusing solely on asset size or growth rates.

Assets capable of maintaining operating efficiency during periods of geopolitical volatility are becoming more attractive to global investment funds.

He added that developing ports and improving their efficiency creates promising investment opportunities in maritime transportation, logistics zones, digital port-management services, tracking technologies, and cold-chain infrastructure.

It also strengthens opportunities for partnerships with specialized international companies.

Concluding his remarks, Samer Choucair said the next phase will see Saudi Arabia’s logistics sector move beyond a primary focus on expanding capacity toward building an integrated ecosystem based on operational efficiency, digitalization, and governance.

This will strengthen the Kingdom’s ability to attract foreign investment, reinforce its position as a central hub for global trade, and create sustainable investment opportunities aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
