Samer Choucair: The Global Chip Crisis Opens a Golden Door for Tech Investment in Saudi Arabia

Investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair issued a press statement addressing the recent developments tied to Apple's attempts to obtain approval from the US administration to buy electronic chips from a Chinese company listed on the export restrictions list, amid escalating geopolitical tensions between Washington and Beijing and their direct effects on global supply chains.

He noted that these developments come at a time when global technology companies face growing pressure as a result of memory chip and storage unit shortages, pushing some companies to raise their product prices to offset rising costs, reflecting the fragility of global supply chains and their heavy reliance on specific production hubs.

He explained that the scene of long lines outside Apple stores around the world reflects strong continued consumer demand for technology, but behind this demand lie growing structural challenges related to securing core components, particularly amid the accelerating growth of AI applications and high-performance computing, which has raised global demand for chips to unprecedented levels.

Choucair said in his statement that Apple's pursuit of regulatory exemptions to secure chips reflects a phase of comprehensive reshaping of global supply chains, adding that this shift doesn't represent merely a temporary operational crisis, but forms a strategic redistribution of power centers in the global technology sector.

*Saudi Arabia's Opportunity*

He added that these shifts conversely open major investment opportunities for regional markets, led by Saudi Arabia, which is moving at an accelerating pace within Vision 2030's targets to strengthen its position as a regional hub for technology and innovation.

He affirmed that the Kingdom today possesses an advanced investment environment supporting the growth of artificial intelligence, data centers, and advanced technology sectors, noting that the expansion of government and private investment in this field strengthens opportunities for building an integrated technical ecosystem capable of attracting global investment in the semiconductor sector and related technologies.

In the context of his analysis, Choucair explained that the Public Investment Fund and national initiatives form an essential pillar in supporting this transformation, through strategic investments helping develop digital infrastructure, attract international partnerships, and transfer technical knowledge, reflecting on creating quality jobs and increasing the non-oil sector's contribution to the economy.

*Where the Opportunities Lie*

Choucair also advised investors to focus on long-term opportunities in the technology sector, particularly investments tied to artificial intelligence and data centers, in addition to investment funds specialized in the technology sector, with the importance of adopting diversification strategies that reduce risks tied to short-term geopolitical volatility.

He concluded his statement by affirming that what the global technology sector is experiencing today represents a structural transformation phase in the nature of investment and production, and that investors' success in the period ahead depends on their ability to read these shifts early and benefit from the opportunities they generate, particularly in emerging markets led by long-term economic visions like the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
