Samer Choucair: Electronic Warfare Is Reshaping the Space Economy. Advanced Communications Are Becoming a Strategic Investment
The growing use of electronic warfare and satellite communication interference in modern conflicts is reshaping the future of the global defense and space industries, according to investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair, who said these developments are creating long-term investment opportunities across aerospace, cybersecurity, advanced communications, and dual-use technologies.
Choucair explained that attempts to disrupt satellite-based communication networks, including systems such as Starlink that have been used to support field communications, demonstrate that technological competition is no longer limited to drones or conventional military equipment. Instead, governments are increasingly prioritizing secure communication infrastructure, electronic warfare capabilities, and resilient satellite networks capable of operating in contested environments.
He noted that recent geopolitical developments are accelerating investment in technologies designed to protect communications, strengthen cybersecurity, and improve the reliability of space-based systems, making these sectors increasingly attractive to institutional investors seeking long-term structural growth.
According to Choucair, defense spending continues to rise as governments modernize their military capabilities. NATO data shows that European allies and Canada increased defense spending by around 20% in real terms during 2025 compared with the previous year, representing more than $90 billion in additional expenditure. This trend reflects a broader global shift toward investing in advanced defense technologies, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and resilient communications infrastructure.
He added that investors are increasingly looking beyond traditional defense manufacturers toward companies developing electronic warfare solutions, secure satellite communications, artificial intelligence applications, autonomous systems, and advanced sensing technologies that support both military and civilian operations.
Choucair said the evolution of satellite communications also highlights the growing importance of commercial space companies that develop resilient networks capable of resisting interference and cyberattacks. As governments and businesses become more dependent on uninterrupted connectivity, demand for secure communications infrastructure is expected to continue expanding over the coming years.
He also emphasized that Saudi Arabia is well positioned to benefit from these global trends as part of Vision 2030, which aims to localize more than 50% of military spending while strengthening domestic defense manufacturing, advanced technology development, and innovation. Investments in aerospace, cybersecurity, and space technologies, he said, can contribute to economic diversification while building high-value industrial capabilities.
According to Choucair, investors should approach these rapidly evolving industries with balanced portfolio strategies that prioritize companies possessing strong technological advantages, research capabilities, and sustainable competitive positions. At the same time, they should remain mindful of geopolitical risks, regulatory developments, and global supply chain challenges that could influence sector performance.
He added that the convergence of defense technology, artificial intelligence, satellite communications, and cybersecurity is creating one of the world's fastest-growing innovation ecosystems, attracting significant public and private investment.
Choucair concluded by saying that the future of investment extends well beyond conventional defense industries. Growth opportunities increasingly lie in space technologies, secure communications, artificial intelligence, advanced digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity. Investors who recognize these structural shifts early and focus on innovation-driven businesses will be better positioned to benefit from one of the most significant technological transformations shaping the global economy over the next decade.
