Samer Choucair: Saudi Arabia Has All the Ingredients to Lead the Future of Clean Energy Globally

Investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair emphasized that the rapid global transformation in the renewable energy sector is creating unprecedented investment opportunities for Saudi Arabia, noting that Saudi Vision 2030 has established a clear strategic framework that enables investors and entrepreneurs to achieve sustainable economic returns while contributing to the future of clean energy.

Choucair explained that the vast wind farms across China send a powerful strategic message to the world, demonstrating how long-term investment in renewable energy has become one of the pillars of the country’s economic and energy security. He stressed that nations with the vision and determination to invest today will have the greatest influence on the global economy in the years ahead.

He pointed out that China surpassed 600 gigawatts of installed wind power capacity by the end of 2025, adding more than 120 gigawatts in a single year. According to Choucair, this achievement was driven by a long-term strategic vision focused on national energy security, domestic manufacturing, and building an integrated supply chain rather than simply expanding projects.

Choucair added that Saudi Arabia now stands before a similar historic opportunity through the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to generate 130 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity—including solar and wind power—to supply around 50% of the Kingdom’s electricity needs. More than 44 gigawatts have already been awarded under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), creating significant opportunities for private sector participation and both local and international investors in one of the region’s largest energy transformation initiatives.

He stressed that China’s experience demonstrates more than just the scale of renewable projects—it highlights the importance of long-term planning and political commitment. The thousands of wind turbines installed across China were the result of a strategic decision to treat renewable energy as a pillar of national economic and energy security rather than merely an environmental initiative.

Choucair noted that Saudi Arabia possesses significant competitive advantages that position it to lead this transition, including vast land resources, some of the world’s highest levels of solar irradiation, strong wind corridors, substantial financial capabilities led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and mega-projects designed to establish the Kingdom as a global hub for green hydrogen and clean electricity production, particularly in NEOM and the northern and eastern regions.

Choucair said: “China has demonstrated that bold investment in renewable energy infrastructure can transform an economy and strengthen energy security. In Saudi Arabia, we have the vision, resources, and government support to achieve this in an even smarter and more sustainable way.”

He added: “The real opportunity lies not only in building wind and solar farms, but also in localizing manufacturing by producing turbines, solar panels, and inverters domestically while creating thousands of high-skilled jobs for Saudi talent, strengthening local content and increasing the value added to the national economy.”

He continued: “Green hydrogen and energy storage represent the next major wave of opportunity. Those who invest in these technologies today will reap significant rewards over the coming decade, particularly as global demand for clean energy continues to grow across European and Asian markets.”

Choucair stressed that “investing in renewable energy is not simply another business project—it is a long-term wealth-building strategy for future generations. Saudi Vision 2030 provides investors with the right framework, while the responsibility of smart investors is to transform that framework into successful projects that deliver both profitability and sustainability.”

He explained that **2026 and the years beyond** represent a crucial period for renewable energy investment in Saudi Arabia due to several supportive factors, including record-low renewable energy generation costs, with some Saudi tenders achieving prices below **2 cents per kilowatt-hour**, rising global demand for green hydrogen and clean electricity, continued government support through competitive tenders and Public Investment Fund partnerships, and expanding local content policies that create broad opportunities for Saudi companies in manufacturing, services, and maintenance.

Choucair encouraged entrepreneurs and investors to capitalize on this opportunity by evaluating projects offered through the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) platform and upcoming National Renewable Energy Program tenders. He also recommended forming strategic partnerships with global companies, particularly from China and Europe, to transfer technology, expertise, and knowledge into the Saudi market while focusing on high-value supporting sectors within the supply chain, including maintenance services, energy storage, logistics, and workforce training, which often offer attractive profit margins and lower competitive intensity than large-scale generation projects.

He also highlighted the importance of investing in startups specializing in green technologies or launching new ventures focused on green hydrogen, battery technologies, and artificial intelligence solutions for smart grid management, while taking advantage of financing opportunities available through local banks, investment funds, and entrepreneurship support programs aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.

Concluding his statement, Samer Choucair emphasized that China’s achievements in renewable energy provide a practical model for what nations with a clear vision and strong determination can accomplish. He noted that Saudi Arabia now possesses all the necessary foundations to become a leading global player in the emerging clean energy landscape.

Choucair concluded: “The question today is no longer whether investment opportunities exist in renewable energy. The real question is whether investors are ready to seize them. The future is being built today, and lasting wealth begins with a clear vision and a bold first step.”
