Samer Choucair: Saudi Football Federation Elections Pave the Way for a New Phase of Sports Investment Opportunities

Institutional governance reforms rarely generate headlines but investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair affirmed that the initiation of procedures to elect a new board of directors for the Saudi Football Federation represents an important institutional step strengthening governance and transparency, and supporting the sports sector's attractiveness as one of the main drivers of economic diversification in the Kingdom, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030's targets.

He explained that the call for the Federation's extraordinary general assembly, scheduled for July 8, 2026, comes within the regulatory procedures for selecting a new board of directors, reflecting the continued development of the sports ecosystem according to best institutional practices, and strengthening investor confidence in the Saudi sports environment.

He noted that sports in the Kingdom has moved beyond its traditional concept to become an integrated economic sector attracting investments in infrastructure, clubs, sports technology, media, and sports tourism, backed by a package of government initiatives targeting raising the sector's contribution to the national economy.

Choucair said: "Every step strengthening governance and professionalism in sports institutions contributes to raising the sector's efficiency and increasing its ability to attract long-term investments, positively reflecting on the growth of the sports economy in the Kingdom."

He added that institutional reforms give investors a clearer, more stable vision, and open the door to strategic partnerships in club development, sports facilities, digital technologies, broadcasting rights, and event management, noting that these sectors are experiencing accelerating growth at both local and global levels.

He affirmed that the investment and privatization program in the sports sector, alongside the Kingdom's hosting of international tournaments and events, creates promising opportunities for investors, entrepreneurs, and startups to enter projects with added value, contributing to strengthening economic sustainability and creating jobs.

He added: "The sports economy has become one of the most promising sectors globally, and the Kingdom today possesses the fundamentals needed to benefit from this growth, whether through club development, investing in sports technology, sports media, or tourism tied to sporting events."

He concluded by affirming that the period ahead requires a strategic reading of the shifts the sports sector is experiencing, explaining that the investor who keeps pace with institutional developments and invests in sports-related sectors will be better positioned to achieve sustainable returns, given the major support the sector enjoys within Saudi Vision 2030's targets.
