Samer Choucair: Electronic Chips Are Redrawing the Global Economy and Opening Major Saudi Opportunities
Control over advanced chip production sits in the hands of just a few companies and that concentration is reshaping global economics, security strategies, and industrial policy simultaneously. Investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair affirmed that the deep shifts in the semiconductor and electronic chip industry are reshaping global economic balances, noting that this sector has become the primary driver of the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and global value chains.
He said that a limited number of global companies dominating advanced chip production reflects a high degree of concentration in the technological supply chain, pushing many nations to rethink their industrial, security, and economic strategies to ensure sustainable access to these vital technologies.
He explained that global geopolitical tensions have contributed to accelerating nations' direction toward diversifying supply sources and building local or regional capabilities in advanced technology fields, including data centers, chip design, and AI infrastructure.
He added that Saudi Arabia is benefiting from these shifts through Vision 2030, which places digital transformation and artificial intelligence at the core of its priorities, through major investments in digital infrastructure, data center projects, and global technology partnerships.
He noted that developing the AI sector in the Kingdom relies on strong competitive elements encompassing the availability of low-cost energy, strategic geographic location, government support, and sovereign investment funds, strengthening the Kingdom's position as a promising regional hub for the digital economy.
He affirmed that expansion in AI projects and data centers represents a long-term investment opportunity, particularly with accelerating growth in global demand for high-performance computing, cloud services, and smart applications.
He pointed out that international technology partnerships, and developing local capabilities in advanced technology design, represent essential pillars for strengthening digital sovereignty and building an integrated knowledge economy within the Kingdom.
Choucair called on investors to adopt long-term investment strategies resting on understanding structural shifts in the global economy, while focusing on sectors tied to artificial intelligence, energy, and digital infrastructure.
He added that investment opportunities in this field aren't limited to infrastructure alone, but extend to technical education, human talent development, and supporting startups specialized in smart solutions and digital languages.
He concluded by affirming that the global shift toward the digital economy represents a historic opportunity for the Kingdom to strengthen its position as a global investment and technology hub, noting that Vision 2030 provides the strategic framework enabling the conversion of these shifts into sustainable economic value.
